Manitoba's 1963 harvest nearly complete with good yields of cereal grains in northwest regions and heat and rust damage in southern areas. Final report notes reduced grades for all grains, fair wheat and barley, oats improving, flax good, peas and buckwheat fair, sunflowers mature, sugar beets excellent, mustard and rapeseed average or better, fall tillage underway and livestock in good condition.

Roadwork Uncovers Prehistoric Skull West of Russell Manitoba
Highway crews cutting into the Assiniboine River valley seven miles west of Russell uncovered a prehistoric buffalo skull with skeletal fragments. Richard Sutton of the Manitoba Museum said it is the most complete example found in Manitoba, likely 10,000 years old, predating human occupation. The find came from blue lake clay near the former Lake Agassiz bed, with horn tips missing but horns measuring about 36 inches. The skull suggests herbivorous behavior and similar predators to present wolves. Confirmation is sought from the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Other parts note local government nominations and acclamations in Russell and surrounding areas.
