Manitoba Crop Expected Tosurpass Long Term Average
Manitoba reports a cereal crop well above the long term average despite a wet cool September that reduced yields and delayed harvest. Threshing ranges from under 50 percent in some districts to nearly complete elsewhere with wheat and oats at about 60 percent, barley 65 percent, and flax 25 percent. Barley fared better than wheat or oats, flax least affected, while rains add to abandoned acreage in the Red River valley. Corn and field peas show strong prospects with sunflowers good and Argentine rape output lowered by shattering but profitable.
