Caution on Wheat Sale to China Hints at Limits for Farmers

Trade Minister Pepin announced a major 86.2 million bushel wheat sale to Communist China, aimed at easing farmer pressure but paired with caution. The deal covers mainly No. 4 Northern and No. 5 wheat, benefiting Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the Peace River region, with delivery over about a year. Pepin warned exports may not rise beyond last year, calling the arrangement a one-shot measure amid bumper carryovers and ongoing North American grain holdings.
