Teacher Exchange Program to End After 1971
The Canadian Education Association announced the teacher exchange program will be discontinued after the 1970–71 school year as Quebec teachers prefer work in France or Africa. Funding was per capita by the ten provinces and applications fell from 102 in 1967–68 to 33 in 1970–71. Twenty six teachers will be exchanged this year including 13 from Quebec and 55 Canadian teachers will go to Britain with three to the United States.

Premier Ed Schreyer of Manitoba said provinces and the federal government likely will agree next year to place the British North America Act under Canadian jurisdiction, transferring amending responsibility from Britain to Ottawa.
