Future compacting trash could fit in nineteen inches
A new home appliance designed to compact garbage may arrive soon. Susan Gada, consumer information specialist, says a 15 inch wide unit can be freestanding or built in. It crushes cans, paper, bottles and plastics at about 2 000 pounds pressure reducing four full cans to one. The cycle lasts about a minute with washing machine level noise. The unit uses a waterproof 10 by 16 inch bag and odor killer spray. A safety lock prevents opening during operation.
