War talk at Masonic ball urges enlistment in civil war
Major Rollins of Ottawa spoke at the Masonic Ball hosted by No Heath Cieb. Rev J Irvine Walker presided as Miss Armstrong and others performed readings. Major Robbins urged a larger front, declaring it is a war of civilization, not England's alone, and called on youth to sign up. Captain Thorson of the 223rd Scandinavian appealed for volunteers, with a band providing selections and the National Anthem ending the program.
