The annual meeting is set for Monday December 10 1917 at 2 o clock in the Allies Theatre. Directors and Auditors report will be received and officers chosen for the ensuing year. H Girrix and W B Grixov are noted as president and secretary.
Community updates urge Victory Bond purchases across Canada and announce local events. Nominations for Reeve and Councillors, a Unionist committee meeting, court and W A activities, church teas, and tributes dominate the page alongside wartime notes on missing soldiers and local civic matters. Pte W J Stone reported missing. Pte Everett Turner also missing. Pte Norman McPhee wounded and amputated.
Laurier candidate Alex Dunlop withdraws from the Neepawa constituency race and pledges support to Anning as an Independent Unionist, opposing Union candidate Fred Se Davis McGregor who remains in the contest.
Winnipeg resident Johnny Deacon joins CPR depot staff. Mrs H Gilroy and Mrs My Williamson rode to Winnipeg Tuesday. Miss Bella Sullivan from Portage la Prairie visits Mrs H As McCatl. A coal delivery expected daily from C A Lawes. The Portage la Prairie District Grain Growers hold their annual convention December 7 at Municipal Hall with speeches by W R Wood J Kennedy Mrs Perry and others. School teachers plan a district holiday. sessions run 10 00 and 1 30. All present attend.
Pte Lindsay H W Cairns and Pte Garnet C Cairns, two Winnipeg youths, are listed among Canada’s fallen, both dying in France. They left Winnipeg with Lt Col Gillispie’s battalion in October last year. Their father Mr Thomas Cairns of MacGregor received the news with pride and sorrow. Russell Cairns also offered service and was accepted. William Cairns, a MacGregor businessman, is their uncle.
