MacGregor Village Council Discusses Waterworks Extension and Lotteries
The MacGregor village council met November 9 with all members present. Topics included a waterworks extension on Woodlawn Drive, culvert costs, and operating lotteries and bingos. A court of revision heard one appeal, and the 1971 assessment roll was returned to council. Building permits for James MacDonald, Harry Shaw, and William Wiebe were approved. A bylaw will fund 50 percent of private culvert costs. The council authorized attendance at the Manitoba Municipal convention. A centennial grant of 724 was received for park improvements. An EMO course update and a planning seminar were announced.

Central Plains Faces a Problem in Renewal of Municipal Memberships
Central Plains Inc. warns a renewal rush may see some municipalities feel they are not getting value. Board chair Sven Sorenson and manager Clarence Riach call for changes in meeting structure to boost involvement and retain the 13 participating municipalities including South Norfolk, St. Francois Xavier, Glenella, Lansdowne and Aralanth Arena. Deputy Minister Ian Blicq notes proposed amendments to the Municipal Act amid a tight provincial budget, as the group plans a December meeting with proxies and a possible quarterly gathering of district representatives.
