The Dominion of Canada launches a government bond drive to raise 5152,009,000 to bolster economic welfare. Five and ten year bonds at 99, with denominations of 1,000, attract savers as Canadians show thrift and faith in national finance, backed by strong banking and corporate funds.
The United Farmer of Manitoba held its annual convention in Brandon with strong northern attendance. A series of resolutions called for drastic economic changes were approved, and Dauphin was selected as the site for the next convention. Two northerners, W. J. Ward of Dauphin and Fred, were noted among participants.
Premier Bracken and Attorney-General Maor spoke to Manitoba convention delegates who supported a nonpolitical municipal council. John Queen led the Independent Labor group and urged united action to improve conditions amid war debt and overproduction. The convention endorsed a production plan with Manitoba representation changes and tax changes, while a rival faction pressed for base rate protections and broader penalties.
A local council publicly thanked the ratepayers after a recent meeting. The note credits the acting magistrate chair and council members for their service, and mentions ongoing work to support the municipality and attendees.
