Manitoba Beer and Liquor Bill Seeks Christmas Passage
The Manitoba government caucus approved a broad liquor bill aiming for royal assent by Christmas. It merges beer by the glass with hotel beer parlors and restricts off sale, while hard liquor moves to government stores with cash and carry and home consumption under liquor commission rules. The measure advances to first reading December 1 with third reading hoped before the recess, facing cabinet-sourced opposition and possible changes to curb bootlegging.
