HBC Turns Over Fur Trade Museum to Manitoba
Hudson's Bay Company has ceded its 4,000 item fur trade museum to the Manitoba government. Hon Gurney Evans says exhibits will find a permanent home at Lower Fort Garry, near the Red River Settlement north of Winnipeg. The fort, built in 1831, will be rebuilt in 1963 by federal and provincial authorities. The museum opened in 1922 in HBC's department store but has been underutilized for some time due to space constraints.
