A two reel Technicolor comedy titled You Know what Sailors Are screens at the Austin Theatre on November 17 and 19. Two sailors, pranksters, are credited with a secret weapon and jailed among many girls who foil their escape attempts with laughs. The story follows their antics and the lovers’ subplots.
Weekend visitors include Mr and Mrs Douglas Duncan and Paul of Brandon calling on the Duncans. Trips to Toronto for new cars by Mr and Mrs Gordon Hay and Mr and Mrs K Jedel. District church events feature a bazaar and Remembrance Day service led by Austin High School students. Local notes mention residents visiting, theatre ads, pool reports, and a late December community hall event with prizes.
The United Church WMS annual meeting at Mrs R Wallace’s home on November 10 elected 1956 officers led by President Mrs W Harland. Other officers include Vice President Mrs W S Duncan, Second Vice President Mrs J Adams, Secretary Mrs M Melntyre, Treasurer Mrs T Poyser, and various committee heads. Mrs Geo Hay retires after four years of service, never missing a meeting.
