Pioneer Orangeman John Acheson Dies at 85
John Acheson a well known Manitoban and pioneer resident of the Castie district southeast of MacGregor died at his home after a two week struggle with pneumonia. Born in 1855 in Mullabrack Ireland he came to Canada in 1877 with a life of farming in Edwin Currie and Portage la Prairie. An Orange Order member since 1872 he was the province’s oldest member at a Carberry meeting and remained active in local school and municipal affairs. Survived by his wife eight daughters six grandchildren two sisters and a brother the funeral was held from the family home with LO.L. No. 2811 MacGregor officiating and interment in MacGregor cemetery.
