Austin Waterworks Vote Approved By Rural Municipality

Ratepayers in Austin voted 88 to 61 to authorize a $102,800 water distribution system by the Rural municipality of North Norfolk. Over 75 percent turnout. $20,000 from general funds. Frontage rate set at 30 seats per foot. Work to begin in spring. A 1965 bylaw for water and sewer was defeated 56 to 93, with identical 149 voters turnout.

Volunteers Clean Up Jackson Lake Site for Summer Resort Plans

A large group of volunteers from Carberry Austin Sidney and MacGregor areas joined in a cleanup at Jackson Lake to prepare the shore for a future summer resort and picnic area. Municipal heavy machinery from North Norfolk North Cypress and Victoria leveled land at the lake north end after a dam project lowered and then raised water levels. Participants include Fred Amann Clarence Denser Pete Penner Dave Meyers Les Leachie and Simon Sigurdson operating machines for their respective RM districts.

Spruce Hills 4-H Cub Reorganizes

Spruce Hills 4-H club reorganizes with opening meeting on October 2 at Spruce Hills School. Officers elected include President Elsie McIntyre and Vice-President Mervyn Leslie. Fifteen members attended the October 30 meeting. November project is a film fundraiser, December plans include a Christmas program and fruit cake raffle.

Manitoba Teachers' Institute on Continuous Progress Schedule

About 100 Manitoba teachers and administrators will attend a five day institute on continuous progress at McMaster House Winnipeg November 4 to 8. Sponsored by the Manitoba Teachers' Society with the Department of Education, the event will feature speakers from North Carolina Moorhead Minnesota and the Toronto Board of Education and cover team teaching curriculum organization and evaluation under the continuous progress concept.

The MacGregor Curling Club will hold its annual meeting on Thursday Nov 14 at 8 p.m. in the Legion Room at Mac Gregor Memorial Hall. President Ron Borton urges a large turnout of curlers and interested persons, stressing the rink is everyone’s affair.

Neepawa Protests Boundary Change to Minnedosa Area

Neepawa asked that communities including Mountain Road Elk Ranch Birnie Eden Polonia Springhill and Franklin stay in Gladstone constituency arguing the area forms the region's life stream. Mayor Harry B Smith urged keeping Neepawa as main center and suggested Gladstone Neepawa as a two name riding. The commission will consider the brief alongside others during Manitoba’s boundary review using 1966 census data.

Chamber meeting set for MacGregor Memorial Hall

The MacGregor Chamber of Commerce annual meeting meets tonight in the Legion Room at 8 p.m. The agenda includes a monthly executive meeting motion, membership fees, Christmas lighting, Santa Claus parade, and other business. The nominating committee will present officers for the coming year. All members and interested persons are urged to attend. Coffee will be served afterward.

MacGregor Collegiate Graduation Next Friday

Graduation exercises will be held in the MacGregor Collegiate Auditorium on Friday November 15 at 7 30 p m. There are 15 graduates this year. Guest speaker will be Gordon Bradley assistant to Hon Walter Weir. The reception will be held in MacGregor Elementary School Auditorium.

Regional Oratorical Finals At McCreary

Regional oratorical finals for North Central will be held at the McCreary Community Centre on Wednesday November 13 at 7 30 p. m. The Portage la Prairie School Division 24 Pine Creek 30 Beautful Plains 31 Turtle River 32 divisions each enter two contestants. The winner advances to the provincial finals in Winnipeg with the MAST convention later in November.

Mustangs Edge Neepawa To Clinch Final Berth

The MacGregor Mustangs rallied to beat Neepawa 7-6 securing a spot in the championship game against Carberry, set for Thursday. Eugene Siemens scored the decisive 15 yard TD in the fourth, while solid defense fueled the comeback after a rough first half. Gord Lye sustained a broken collarbone in a prior exhibition and is hoped to recover soon.

Fun Fair Friday Night in MacGregor Lions Club Event

Friday night features a giant MacGregor Lions Club fun fair at the MacGregor Memorial Hall starting at 8 p.m. with free admission. Games include over and under, crown and anchor, darts, a picture booth, air gun shooting, pick up, 21 or bust, kids fish pond, bingo and more along with candy and lunch booths.

Remembrance Day Service Here Monday

Citizens of the MacGregor district will pay tribute Monday Remembrance Day to those who gave their lives in all wars. At 11 am the North Norfolk Legion 10 D.E. service men and others will gather at the cenotaph at the MacGregor United Church to honor the sacrifice. Wreaths will be placed with Last Post two minutes silence and Reveille. November 11 is a school holiday so students will not parade and no separate service will be held.
