Income Security Plan Expands Regional Support Programs
The Manitoba department outlines a broad income security package, boosting work incentives and allowances for social assistance recipients, students, single mothers, and the elderly. Nursing home costs will shift to the Manitoba Hospital Services plan after July 1 1973 with a daily $4.50 patient share. The program covers medical needs through health services and offers special aid for families and dependents, including pregnant girls and guardians of other people's children. Residents qualify for pensions or allowances for blind or disabled persons, with residency and income requirements.

Ceiling of doctor fees drawn up in Ontario plan
Ontario Health Insurance Plan will not pay more than 1260 a week or 6480 a month for patients treated after May 1. The Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons cites a need to maintain high quality care by limiting patient numbers. The move drew immediate criticism from the Ontario Medical Association and doctors, who warn it could clog hospital emergency departments and reduce access.
