The MacGregor Herald, established February 1897, invites readers every Thursday at the Herald Office in MacGregor Manitoba. Published by A M Shaw, it is authorized as second class mail with yearly rates of $2.50 in Canada and $3.00 in the USA.
Community notes from Katrime and district list Sunday visits from MacGregor Petrol and Portage. Residents share a Mother's Day telephone cheer from Nelson BC and hospital updates for Mrs Lake and Frank Reid. Church services planned May 22 at Katrime.
The Annual Meeting of the Good Neighbors Club reports 11 members present. Finances show receipts 172.97, disbursements 142.13, and cash on hand 82.36. A bake sale netted 37.20 for MacGregor Hospital. The group sent 15 to the Children's Aid Society, quilts and lamp to Mr and Mrs Martinizen, a shower for Loreen Amann, and gifts to Elsie Rogers. Twenty two fruit boxes and five bouquets went to the sick and elderly. New officers elected: President Mrs F Gilbert, Vice President Mrs A Barber, Secretary Mrs M Duncan. Meetings are the third Wednesday. next June 15. Canada’s artificial flowers and feathers industry totals 42 firms worth over 2,500,000 annually.
Local events include a baptismal service at Southend School on May 15 at 3 30 pm and a mixed schedule of visits and social gatherings. A May WMS meeting at Mrs RA Collier's, a bazaar planning session, and a miscellaneous shower for Mrs Donald Currie were noted with multiple residents attending. The Welland Canal locks lift or lower ships 325 feet along their 28 mile stretch between Port Weller and Port Colborne.
