Second Finance Rejection From Winnipeg Private Schools

Two private Winnipeg schools Balmoral Hall and Westgate Mennonite Collegiate faced a second rejection from the school board Thursday night in seeking an incoming provincial foundation grant of about 350 per pupil. Each school serves roughly 300 students. Balmoral Hall Trustee A F Judd argued shared services under provincial rules are impractical for independents while noting it would be cheaper to grant funding than letting students move to public schools. The board reiterated Manitoba law bars public aid to private schools. Trustee Michael Barager urged the schools to pursue court action if they deem the board’s reading illegal, otherwise the Legislature is the only remedy.
