CN Plans $8 Million For Double Track Winnipeg Portage Line
Canadian National Railways will spend 8 million this year on the Winnipeg Portage la Prairie double tracking project begun last summer. A 16 mile section between Erie and Portage la Prairie was graded and drained under a Mulder Bros contract completed in late fall. CN says 14 rural crossings exist in Portage la Prairie where the new line intersects roads, with 36 daily trains on the existing main line. CN also budgets 25 million for prairie track work and 17 million for facilities upgrades, including heavier rail on 104.23 miles of main lines in Ontario and Manitoba and 60.23 miles in northern Manitoba sections.
