Arbor Day Tree Planting At Whitemud Watershed
Hundreds of Manitoba cubs and scouts join Arbor Day to plant 60 000 to 80 000 trees in the Whitemud watershed. About 500 youths and 200 volunteers fundraise for every tree while government supplies jackpine and Scots pine. The effort supports erosion control and wildlife habitat, with 170 000 trees planned to prevent gully formation. A shelterbelt program will plant 110 miles of roadside and field belts this summer with cost shared by federal and provincial governments.
