Freight Rates Get Another Boost

The Canadian Freight Association ordered a six percent rise in agreed-charge freight rates for about 1,000 shippers, effective July 14. Contracts are renegotiated for roughly two thirds of the 1,500 such agreements. The rise aims to offset higher operating and labor costs, including recent wage awards, and is expected to raise railway revenue by about $3 million in the second half of 1969.
