Fixed Subsidy Not The Answer

W. J. Parker of Manitoba Pool Elevators warned that a fixed subsidy for Canadian wheat farmers would aid competing exporters and delay producer benefits. He argued subsidy timing would reveal Canada’s lowest sale price, reduce export opportunities, and only pay out after the 1968 crop, while government study of the subsidy continues. Parker expects stronger selling programs to raise producer deliveries and a later push for subsidies.

Researchers Fredeen and Jones highlighted synthetic feeds and biotechnologies, crossbreeding, and self sufficiency through eastern Canada's integrated land use to grow livestock locally.
