Tax tips on exemptions and Canada Pension Plan rules

The guidance covers claiming exemptions after separation, child dependent exemptions, and CPP contributions. It explains that in the separation year you may claim either your pre separation exemptions or alimony payments, and in later years only alimony. It confirms a parent can claim child exemptions even if the other claimed child care expenses. It states CPP contributions are mandatory for employees and self employed, with exceptions for ages 18 70 or disabilities, and outlines steps if employers fail to deduct. It notes pension taxable status, and that divorced women may claim equivalent married exemptions if the child resides with them, and when a spouse worked after marriage.

Sawdust Tested as Cattle Feed in British Columbia

In Kamloops researchers test acid treated wood waste as winter cattle feed. Tests with Hereford calves show a 39 percent sawdust diet yields about 0.5 pounds per day less than meadow hay, and grow close to hay gains, with potential to replace costly feeds. Further work refines cooking to boost digestibility and energy value.

Agriculture Canada notes on grain versus forage beef feeding

Agriculture Canada reports 168 day trials at Manyberries Alberta comparing grain fed and forage fed calves from Angus and Hereford herds. Grain fed calves gained faster but showed more digestive issues, higher death rates, stress, earlier replacement of cows, and lower milk from grain fed cows. Forage fed cows produced more milk and calves gained weight faster to weaning. Fast gainers in grain group may be appetite driven, while forage group fast gainers may be efficient feed users.
