Dairymen Get Interim Milk Payment Promised
Manitoba dairy farmers were told by Sam Uskiw in the Legislature that an interim payment of 70 cents per hundredweight for fluid milk would begin last Tuesday. He blamed hold backs on new Milk Board procedures and noted recent cheques were based on estimates rather than actual sales. Deputy Tory leader Harry Enns said the hold backs could reach 700 to 800 dollars monthly for some producers, tracing the issue to October when the Milk Control Board became the central setting agency for fluid milk.

Meat research lags in Canada behind western nations
Dr. D. S. Clark of the National Research Council told a University of asperta audience that Canada has 21 meat research scientists, compared with 200 in Britain and 350 in Denmark. Meat processing is a $14 billion industry but only 5 percent of food research funds go to meat. Vacuum packing could keep meat fresh longer, though shoppers are not used to redder, purple-toned vacuum packed meats. A note on a St Patrick’s Day tea in MacGregor United Church Hall March 15 from 3 to 5 pm.
