Sharp Prescribes Surtaxes And Wage-Price Restraints

The Canadian government unveiled a budget plan with new surtaxes on personal income and corporations, aiming to balance the 1968 69 budget. A 3 percent personal surtax and a 3 percent corporate surtax would target high income levels and corporate profits, alongside spending cuts of 75 million and civil service hiring freezes. A board of review would curb wage and price increases, while the overall package seeks to steady the dollar and win parliamentary approval.
