Ladies Bonspiel At Portage House Crowned Winners
The ladies bonspiel held at Portage hospital drew 12 rinks with Alice Nichol’s team taking first prize and Miriam Nichol’s foursome second. Mabel Charlton’s rink won the second event with Kay Frizzley’s foursome second, while Mary Richardson’s rink earned the hard luck prize.

Last week 100 residents and guests gathered as Mr. and Mrs. T J Spellman of Borger Texas visited with Mr. and Mrs. S E Knox before leaving for the US after two months at revival meetings in Gladstone Glenella and MacGregor districts. Thursday visitors at the Livingstone home included Mr. and Mrs E Tilley Miss Carlene Tilley Miss Louise Tilley and Albert Jeffries. Weekend guests were Mr. and Mrs Janson of Bratton. Others visiting last week were Mr. and Mrs A Simmer and the Roslings of Gladstone Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beatty and family of Helston. Last Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Livingstone with Harold and Ernie visited Winnipeg. Joe Livingstone left Sunday for LaRiviere to work for the CPR. Walter and Bob Beatty were Sunday visitors at the Livingstone home. Mr. and Mrs. Milford Smith Harold Rosling Ernie Livington John Uhrin Jean Uhrin Dennis and Jimmy Hanna are curling in the Edrans bon spiel. Good luck.

Don Barber and teammates won the Grand Challenge in the 17th renewal curling bonspiel in Austin, with Jack Wolfe clinching a comeback win over Roy Snaith in the finals. MacGregor club provided ice for many games as 152 were played. Prizes span four events with multiple clubs earning top fours.

Dominion City defeated MacGregor 84 in the opening game of a best of three Armstrong series at MacGregor last Thursday night. Snow blocked the second game, with 7 inches preventing travel. it is rescheduled for later in the week. MacGregor led 2 periods before fatigue, and Garry Buchanan and Barrie Barber both scored twice for MacGregor. Membership dues and birth certificates are required from players, with a deadline of March 9, and birthday greetings note Mrs. James Campbell’s 97th on March 4.

YWCA Volunteer Mrs Williams A Warm Winnipeg Helper
Mrs. Cressida Williams a former Katrime resident arrives at the Winnipeg YWCA each Wednesday and Friday to supervise preschool children while mothers attend language classes from 1:30 to 4 pm. She also creates floral arrangements sold at the World Service Festival for four years. Her YWCA service spans 22 years with past host roles in Hollywood and wartime duties at Winnipeg’s Academy Road leave centre. She plans to celebrate her 80th birthday in March.
