The Manitoba legislature adjourned to March 20 on a 27 to 17 vote after Premier Bracken moved for recess citing two minister resignations. He said the government would introduce a bill at reopening to ratify the Winnipeg Electric Company agreement with full discussion promised.
An interim 1928 crop payment totaling more than 26 million dollars was distributed March 1 to Western Canada Wheat Pool members. Manitoba received 2.289 million on deliveries of 18.408 million bushels of wheat and 703,760 bushels of flax and rye. Saskatchewan members collected 17.499 million, with 146,414 bushels of flax and rye and 3,165,000 bushels of flax and rye. A pool payment of 6.110 million was issued on 55,000,000 bushels of wheat. The total distributed equals the sum of these figures.
The 43rd annual MacGregor Agricultural Society Fair will open July 17 with Hon J D McGregor lieutenant governor of Manitoba expected to attend. An oldtimers reunion will be held, and McGregor plans to donate a medal to the calf winning boy or girl. Directors revised the prize list and seek specials for inclusion.
A MacGregor Board of Trade meeting was held Tuesday night with fairly good attendance. Discussions covered several town welfare matters and related community concerns.
Mr W Cairns outlined his Winnipeg trip as Manitoba Boards of Trade delegate. A resolution urged the Manitoba Power Commission to pursue hydro power locally and arrange a speaker for a future meeting. Another resolution asked Canadian Pacific to establish MacGregor as a Sunday flag station and to omit the Monday morning train. The secretary was asked to request CN to re grade the MacGregor to Deer road and seek spare railway cinders for surfacing. The next meeting is set for the week of April 8 with a strong turnout encouraged.
