Local notices and social visits in MacGregor area

Mrs H Street of Emmeline visits at the Manse with Mrs R H Fotheringham. Mr and Mrs A D Lundy of Palatine near Chicago visit with Mrs McIntosh and family. C Berry travels to Portage la Prairie hospital for treatment and recovery. Charles Sears, 1 Carberry, takes over Berry Service Station. G H Floate to remain. Various community updates include visits, operations, garden seed displays, and a note of thanks from J H Watson and Mrs Watson of Portland for their 50th anniversary. A Portage la Prairie court sentenced a wood-theft case to two months. The North Norfolk and District Canadian Legion plans a 25c bridge tournament across six districts, with entries by March 1 and preliminaries by March 20. Church women meet March 3 and March 7, with a St Paul’s W A, United Church WMS, and L O B A events. Mrs John Stirling is in Portage la Prairie hospital awaiting recovery.

Grand Challenge Curling Prize Winners of 1933 Bonspiel

In a close final S R Lamb’s family rink defeated H A Lye by 12 to 10 in the Grand Challenge event of the 1933 bonspiel. The event, noted for fine ice and crowds, saw Lamb win the Grand Challenge, Lye take the Gold Standard, and P. MacKinnon win the Consolation. Prizes were donated by T Eaton Co Ltd, Shea’s Ltd, Drewry’s Ltd, Codville Co Ltd, C W Lye & Son Ltd, J A Gray, and G W West.
