New Durum Wheat Varieties Fail to Meet Standards
Canada Department of Agriculture reports durum wheat lines DTT 136 and DT 197 developed at Winnipeg cannot be distinguished from the low quality Golden Ball, making them ineligible for higher statutory grades. Seed stocks will be disposed of as commercial grain, while researchers plan testing to identify qualifying strains. The Manitoba Field Crops Short Course runs March 5–9 at University of Manitoba with registration details, and a Horticultural Short Course follows March 12–17 with registration in Administration Building Room 207.
