The Children's Aid Society of Central Manitoba challenged members to maintain service quality while expanding into prevention. President A J Rutherford outlined growth from a small local group to a large agency partnering with government and other bodies to serve children in need and avert future problems. Executive director Bruce Fraser described pressures, including more teen issues, native family disorganization, foster care needs, and boundary changes for health service delivery. The annual report for the year ending March 31 1973 showed 4168 family counselling sessions for 1064 children in 384 families and 10287 interviews. 95 unwed parents and 32 adoptions with 107 families awaiting studies or placements. The budget totaled 1 046 514 with expenses including care, salaries, and administration. The society highlighted programs such as foster parent days, a Portage area Foster Parent Association, use of Manitoba Home for Boys for emergency placements, and involvement in regional planning and legal reforms. A list of elected officers and auditors followed.
