American Visitors Affect Beef Prices
Agriculture officials say American visitors to Expo 67 have boosted red meat demand in Canada, lifting Toronto cattle prices about four dollars per hundredweight. They cite strong U.S. and Canadian beef exports, rising hog supplies, and population movements as key factors, with Bennett forecasting stable beef supply until 1971 or 1972 before grazing limits push prices higher.

Extension News Centre Green Foxtail Control In Field Peas
Green foxtail weed in field peas can be suppressed by TCA per acre of test results at Morden last year. TCA applied alone or with MCPA reduced weed growth for the season in two crop cycles. Three pounds of TCA per acre cut seed production on treated plants to under 10 percent. Apply TCA at seedling stage before four leaves and use at least 10 gallons per acre, or 20 gallons if mixed with MCPB or MCPA MCPS. For light sandy soils use the 2% pound rate.

Lack of Support for Churchill Port Criticized by Directors
At the Hudsons Bay Route Association annual meeting over 200 delegates from the prairie provinces heard directors urge federal and provincial governments to boost development of the Port of Churchill in Manitoba. They cited stagnant wheat exports since 1959 while eastern ports rose about 400 percent, warning that the port remains idle part time without new customers and required wharf and terminal upgrades as pulp, paper, power and mineral traffic could drive growth. Manitoba officials urged balanced regional development, imports alongside exports, and measures to lower freight costs to strengthen the port's future prospects.
