Turner cites 1.7% rise in living costs as deep concern
Federal Finance Minister John Turner warns that the 1.7 per cent cost of living increase for last month is troubling but not unexpected. He links the rise mainly to food price gains and a May fuel price uptick, saying neither wage nor price controls would fix the problem. Turner points to supply issues and says Canada must boost agricultural production while rejecting Stanfield's wage and price freeze as harmful to food supply.
