The death occurred in the hospital Wednesday of Mr Walter Scott aged 65 a longtime MacGregor district resident. The funeral will be held Friday at 230 p m from St Pauls Church to the MacGregor cemetery.
The 18th annual Bagot Sports Day will be held tomorrow Friday featuring softball and other sports. A community hall dance is scheduled for the night. posters invite attendance.
A large crowd attended an open meeting at the War Work Centre on Saturday June 12 arranged by Britannia Chapter 1.0.D.E. the Women’s Institute and the Home Nursing classes. Speakers Miss Ina Broadfoot R.N. Provincial Director of the Red Cross Home Nursing Service Mrs Moores Red Cross Women’s War Work Committee and Miss Smith Cancer Institute gave informative talks. A report on Home Nursing class progress was presented by Mrs J R McNeely and Red Cross sewing reports were given by Mrs D R Davis and Mrs Edwards. Mrs G A Hay highlighted wartime cooperation between Britannia Chapter and the Red Cross. Mrs H A Lye presented silver spoons to Miss G Burke and Miss W Olmstead for leading Brownies and Girl Guides. A social hour closed the afternoon. Last week a Labour Department rep visited MacGregor inspecting wages and hours with several local employers assessed for Minimum Wage Act infractions and a 48 hour work week limit noted.
