Salt Plains Raceway heats up behind windy June day
The Salt Plains Raceway hosted a thrilling racing test with twenty cars on a chilly, damp afternoon. Lawrence Bradley led the first race in No. 26 with a new red paint job, while Roy and Jim Arnold chased him. Hobby Stock races saw No. 50 under new ownership win the second race, No. 5 close behind, and No. 72 in third. A notable scare occurred when Don Maloney flipped on his rookie run, stopping the event briefly. Roarin’ Roy, No. 12, edged Gary Thurston, No. 71, at the finish of the third race, as Week Snowden led from Killarney to success in the later Hobby Stock heats. The Le Mans Stock Car Race had thirteen entrants with Jim Cox, No. 88, taking the long lead, followed by Thurston and Roy. The eighth race saw Snowdon’s bold dive and No. 50 win, with No. 13 second. The day closed with the feature Stock Car race, Gary Ston’s No. 71 surging from last to first, MacDonald Bros. No. 88 second, and No. 22 third, concluding an exciting afternoon. Next race is June 23.
