North Norfolk votes to buy CPR pipeline for water supply
North Norfolk councillors at the June 3 meeting approved purchasing the Canadian Pacific Railway pipeline to create a local water utility. The gravity-fed system carries water from Squirrel Creek near Austin to MacGregor, with extra supply planned for sale to nearby towns. The move, first in the province, aims to provide long term water certainty and offset costs through sales. The by law also covers ARDA funding and a 1963 budget of 36 mills, plus welfare cost relief talks and gravel pit negotiations. The council also approved topping the road from PTH 34 into the Austin Agricultural Museum from the municipal gravel pit.
