Private Agencies Lead In Social Service Work Says Professor
Professor Bernard Hill of the University of Manitoba told the 28th annual meeting of the Children's Aid Society of Central Manitoba that private agencies are at the forefront of social work. He called agencies such as Portage’s citizen movements essential to democracy and warned that even with government takeover, private agencies will continue to spring up to meet unmet needs. He urged planning for five to ten years ahead and warned against clinging to tradition, noting agencies can act faster and broader than governments when addressing future needs.
