Garden insect enemies and control methods for warm weather

General garden pests divide into two groups the biting leaf feeders and the sap suckers. For biting insects use poison or a burning spray such as lime sulfur and arsenate often combined for best results. Sucking pests like aphids are tackled with whale oil and soap spray. Fungus attacks redden leaves with yellow brown or white spots and are common in warm murky weather. Bordeaux mixture and finely ground sulfur dust help. A tin dusting shaker is useful for application. Cutworms are poisoned around seedling stems with sweetened granulated Paris Green. Tender vegetables include beans tomatoes squash cucumbers and melons. Warm weather crops need rich open soil and later sowings for many standard vegetables.
