Beef Imports Rise To Greater Heights In Canada

Canadian beef imports rise as New Zealand and Australia push cheaper frozen and manufactured meats into the market. From January to May New Zealand boneless beef value jumped from 37000 to 1278000 dollars with 79400 pounds shipped in January and 3 070 800 pounds in May. Australian imports grew from 58000 to 823000 dollars, peaking at 942000 in April, with frozen boneless cuts dominating. Experts doubt prices will drop or hurt local producers. industry officials note Canadian firms have neglected cheap cuts, focusing on fresh high quality beef, potentially keeping prices firm despite higher imports.
