Local Residents Return From Travels and Events
Miss Audrey Poyser returned home last week after holidaying at Atikokan Ontario. Mr A J Stevenson CPR agent MacGregor spent the weekend with friends at Austin. Mr and Mrs Edgar Sager returned to their Winnipeg home last Thursday. The Austin Co op Elevator will be closed from July 2 uth to Wednesday August 7th. Mr and Mrs K Jedel returned Sunday from a motor trip to Lake Louise and Banff. Mrs D Mitchell of Nipawin visited recently with her parents Mr and Mrs Wm Cowan. Mr Stanley Hunt of Winnipeg returned home Sunday after a two weeks visit with his wife and relatives. Dance in Paul Kowalchuk's Barn on Thursday August 1st with Machan's Orchestra. Mr and Mrs H Goodridge and Mr Wm Harding spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs James Adams. Rev Mr Gawthrop has been appointed in charge of the Cypress River field. Mr Davids Muir conducted the service there last Sunday.

Quiet Wedding in Austin United Church
A quiet wedding took place at Austin United Church on July 17 at 3 p.m. Phyllis Irene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos Bowe of Austin, married John Smith, son of Mr. Alex Leslie of Sidney Manitoba. Rev. Bruce Johnson officiated, organist Mrs. P Waters played as guests arrived under summer floral arches.

Mrs Ellen Alliban Laid To Rest
Funeral services for Ellen Alliban were held in Findale with many neighbors attending. Born in Berkshire England on January 4 1857 she emigrated to the United States in 1883 then taught in England before moving to Canada after WWI and settling in the Findale district. She was predeceased by her husband in 1927 and survived by son E G Alliban five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers and flower-bearers included Davis Freeborn Wm Price Ker McLachlan Jas Furey Wim Moffat Sylvester Bird Sam O Brien Charles Manns Harry Keito and Andy Curr.

Grandmothers Fete at Austin WMC Meeting
The Austin United Church Women’s Missionary Society hosted grandmother members on Friday July 19 at Mrs F J Hall’s home. Devotional led by Mrs D A Campbell and Mrs H Duncan preceded songs and recitations. Memorable moments included nostalgia on schooldays and early cars, with Barbara Jones named oldest present and Reuben Poyser attending as the newest grandmother. A luncheon concluded the pleasant afternoon.
