Ottawa Asked To Extend Crop Year
The federal government is urged to extend the official crop year to help farmers deliver more grain and get faster payments. Premier Ed Schreyer favors adding two or three months, with current rules paying initial at delivery and final in March the following year. Extending the year would speed payments and boost per acre yields. Quotas reset at year end, with no firm new quotas from the Canadian Wheat Board yet.
