Manitoba Beaver Pelts Attract Global Buyers In Winnipeg
Hon. C. H. Witney reported world buyers competed for 60,000 Manitoba beaver pelts sold at a Winnipeg auction, adding nearly $1 million to the provincial economy. Pelts rose 15 to 20 percent from last year as demand grew from Italy Switzerland France England and West Germany amid improved quality and conservation efforts. Trappers benefited from higher prices and greater volumes, with European fashion driving a bigger fall fur trend.
