Rust risk rises as rains linger on western Canadian crops
Western Canada farmers face continued wet weather that could ignite rust in wheat and barley. A federal release notes that six weeks remain a critical window for rust spread, with rain and grasshopper damage compounding losses. Manitoba and Saskatchewan varieties Selkirk and Pembina show resistance, while Thatcher and Canthatch may suffer leaf rust. Parkland barley is mostly resistant, but Mont Salm remains vulnerable. oats may escape major harm due to few widespread rusts.
