A long list of residents from MacGregor and area are noted in travel and visit updates. Families from Victoria BC Winnipeg Russell Regina and Montreal are mentioned visiting relatives and attending summer events. Local weddings, camping, church gatherings, and sporting days at Austin are cited along with a pie plate return notice and a wolf cub sighting.
The marriage of Diana Kim-Christ Lye and John Rupert Lyall Taylor was solemnized July 2 at St Luke's Anglican Church Winnipeg. Canon R L Taylor officiated with organist Lucien Needham. reception followed at St Luke's Parish Hall. The couple will reside in Winnipeg. guests included relatives from Regina Saskatoon Grand Forks and Peterborough.
The notice corrects a June 26 MacGregor Annual Fair caption. It should read that the champion call was shown by Bob Leckie of MacGregor 4H Club, not Harold Leckie, as previously stated.
The Bethel Church Sunday morning service at 10 30 am and evening service at 7 30 pm are cancelled due to the annual camp. A meeting at Manhattan Beach is planned for 2 15 pm with Sunday School and Worship at Calvary Tabernacle in Sidney.
The United Church in MacGregor lists a 10:00 am communion service and a 7:00 pm evening service. The next service is Sunday August 16 at 10:00 am.
The Western Manitoba All Stars defeated the MacGregor Cubs to finish second in the Portage tournament. The Gladstone lineup included players from Plumas Portage Wellwood and others as the game concluded.
MacGregor Cubs opened with a 5-1 win over R.C.A F Portage and then beat Miami 7-4. Miami rallied late but MacGregor held them scoreless after slugging three runs in the eighth. Perry Allan matched strong pitching over two days with Barrie Barber and Gerry Cobbe logging many innings. The next home game is slated for Tuesday June 14 in MacGregor.
A Directors meeting of the Agricultural Memorial Museum of Manitoba was held at Wand erer's Paradise on June 3 1959 with D McKean chairing. Attendees included D McKenand C Lear R Compton K Jedel A Birney G Mundell J Tucker D Car rothers D Milne and T Car rothers. Bills for Municipal land tax were discussed.
The MacGregor Village Council met Monday July 7 1959 with Mayor W J Wen ham presiding. All members except Stratton attended and John Leonard Lamb's building permit was approved. The mayor spoke of the Langruth district meetings and Central Judicial District funding while council discussed nuisance ground site fencing and waste disposal methods. Accounts recommended for payment include MacGregor Hospital deficit 1000 dollars and various municipal expenses.
Finance and advertising items outline payments and co operation from CBC Winnipeg Bran son TV and Free Press Tribune for pictures. Multiple volunteers organize grain grinding racing oxen weighing contest free admission 75 cents adults 25 cents students. next meeting June 19 1959.
Strong winds and a Tuesday morning thunderstorm gusting to 62 mph knocked out a few power lines and felled some trees with limited damage reported in the MacGregor area. A Wednesday afternoon storm brought hail to scattered areas but no hail damage reported in the district.
Memories of Manitoba pioneer days return as the Threshermen's Reunion runs Wednesday July 15 to Saturday July 18 at the Manitoba Agricultural Memorial Museum south west of Austin. The expanded program includes ox weight guessing, flour grinding and open oven bread making demos, a musical stage show, and daily tractor and machinery parades at 2 p.m. On Saturday two parades occur at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. A new grandstand improves spectator comfort with ongoing gas and steam threshing demos, steam engine plowing, obstacle and slow races, and more as coverage continues on Page Six.
