Funeral tribute to Mr Collier with community leaders present
The service for Mr Collier was held at the United Church on Saturday. Rev James Fleming spoke of the passing of the old-timers and urged younger men to “carry on.” The casket lay under many towers reflecting the community’s affection for the deceased. Family members listed include Mrs Nefie Green of Edmonton and Mrs Alex Agram of Oakville, with others in Vancouver, Austin, and New Westminster.

Firdale School Destroyed by Fire in Manitoba
The rural Firdale school burned to the ground Sunday afternoon. The Sunday School was in the basement and saved the organ and seats, but the main building and library equipment were lost. Insurance is believed to cover the structure.

Death of W. J. Collier in Austin district
William J. Collier died at his farm home in the Austin district after a cerebral meningitis attack. He was 69 years old. Born in Durham Ontario, he moved west with his parents, lived near Portage la Prairie, and then settled in Rus, later Austin, for 35 years. He married Sarah Ritchie in 1883, who was visiting in Glen Sutton Quebec at the time of his death. The community extends sympathy to his wife and family.
