Local Man in Fatal Highway Crash Details Evasive Actions
Court heard testimony on a collision near a Portage bridge with the Gordon car traveling east toward Portage and a second vehicle westbound. An open vodka bottle was found in the Gordon car and witnesses described the Gordon car swerving onto the north shoulder and then back across the road, causing a multi-car impact that killed Mr. Gordon and injured others. Florence Leach testified she recalled only the crash after consuming beer and vodka prior to the trip. Steven Shelby and Jack Baskier provided accounts of excessive speed, snow and visibility conditions, and the sequence as the Gordon vehicle veered, crossed, and collided with the Thompson car at the bridge.
