Mosquito Control Tactics Planned for Manitoba Winters
University of Manitoba entomologist R A Brust urges municipalities to begin mosquito control planning this winter for next summer. Steps include consulting an experienced entomologist, forming a local control committee, and completing a four month lead time for applications to the Manitoba Clean Environment Commission. About 45 species exist in Manitoba with varying life cycles, most backyard bites come from nearby pools, while some originate up to five miles away. Personal repellents give 30 to 90 minutes protection, and outdoor electronic devices are not effective.
