New rust resistant wheat licensed by Agriculture Canada
Agriculture Canada licensed a new rust resistant spring wheat variety named Sinton. Developed by the South Saskatchewan Wheat Program, the cross was created at Regina Research Station in 1963 by Dr. E A Hurd and Dr. L A Patterson. Sinton honors homesteader Robert Sinton, who farmed near Regina from 1882 to 1952. About 20 000 bushels of Linton seed will be available next spring for planting in Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan, with seed distribution to follow farm press notices.
