Portage Mutual Reports an Exceptionally Good Year
The Portage la Prairie Mutual Insurance Company held its fifty ninth annual meeting February 9 with a large turnout of policy holders and agents. The report cited sound progress and prudent risk selection, noting total insurance in force at $7,506,282 and high premium collections at 90 percent with a low loss ratio of 40.87 percent. Investments rose, surplus grew to $401,703.87, and real estate was written down. A.H. Thorpe praised staff and agents. officers retained. M.G. Tidsbury reappointed president of the Agents Association.

Death of William Scotty Grant at 87 in Kamloops
William Scotty Grant, 87, died at Royal Island Hospital Kamloops B C on February 17. A Kamloops resident since 1890, he was born in Morayshire Scotland and was the lone surviving brother of Mrs H B Hay of MacGregor. A carpenter by trade, the funeral was from Dwyer's Funeral Home Blackbourne Presbyterian Church. Family illness prevented some relatives from traveling to Kamloops. The community extends sympathy to Mrs Hay and family.

Death of J. McGilvrey in Winnipeg at 76
J McGilvrey died in Winnipeg on February 14 at age 76 after years of illness. Born in Ontario, he resided in the district and was highly respected. Survived by his widow and three daughters Mrs Bjornsfelt Mrs Wm McTiwraith and Mrs McCarthy. Funeral held Thursday at Elmwood cemetery.
