Brandon Man Stricken By Parrot Fever
Dr. Emmanuel Snell of Manitoba cautions a Brandon resident contracted psittacosis in January after buying a budgie from a local store. The budgie, part of a shipment from St. Thomas Ontario, prompted seizure and destruction of birds. The patient was hospitalized a week and recovered, with three budgies already dead. Psittacosis inflames the lungs and mimics pneumonia with headaches and chills.
