Soil Test Results Highlight Phosphate Recommendations
Officials from the provincial Soils testing laboratory report no major change in phosphate fertilizer guidance this season. Farmers should order bulk phosphate formulations at reduced early-year prices and apply 30 pounds per acre of 11480 or 20 pounds of phosphate per acre for summer fallow and post wheat crops. About 400 farmers will soon receive test-based recommendations. nearly 4,000 samples have been analyzed since last fall, with delays in reporting. Some fields, especially in western Manitoba, show nitrogen buildup from a second summer fallow. extra nitrogen can be broadcast in spring and phosphate should be drilled with seed.
