Gasoline tax slammed by Manitoba trucking chief
Arch McArthur of Winnipeg, president of the Manitoba Trucking Association, denounced Autopac's proposed two cent per gallon gasoline tax as ridiculous. He warned the tax would raise operating costs for trucks, which run up to 100,000 miles yearly, and questioned subsidizing Manitiba for alleged Autopac mismanagement. An executive estimated 1,500 trucks at 50,000 to 75,000 miles yearly could yield about $500,000 annually from the tax.
